Dining Room Progress

I'm feeling like it's time to show some progress room by room.  The dining room is coming along well.  Living in an older home we are lucky enough to have a formal dining space.  It's small but it's open to our living room which makes it feel bigger.  I believe that there was once a room divider that was removed at some point.  There is some evidence of it in the hardwood floors and the trim around the opening.  I've thought about recreating it at some point, but we have so much else to do it's pretty far down the priority list at this point.

The first thing we did was pull up all the nasty stinky carpet.  We were very excited to find the hardwood floors underneath in relatively good condition.  Some day in the future we will refinish them, but they are a huge improvement for now.  We also painted and put in a new light fixture and ceiling medallion.  I love the detail that the medallion adds.  It highlights our crown moulding and gives character to an otherwise simple light fixture.  My goal in each of these spaces is to keep the character of the house, but to compliment it with clean and modern fixtures/details.

This room totally needed a rug (not according to my husband).  As the dude say's "That rug really tied the room together"!  Now I'm pretty sure we need curtains.  Yes, we have shades but curtains will add more color.

This is the fabric I ordered for curtains - now I need to get started on that project!
